Wargaming World Solo is a site for ALL wargamers who, at some point in time are also SOLO wargamers (my opening paragraph in my welcome to ALL readers).
And so it proves as, primarily a solo wargamer, I have done the reverse and been extremely fortunate to become a member of Durham Wargames Group – a solo wargamer becoming a club player! Moreover, whilst you might be surprised that solo wargaming can create a “spark” via the “competitive opponent” in the Virtual You of Wargaming World Solo rules – I was similarly surprised that joining a club produced a “spark” in my hobby with a very friendly club with a veritable bounty of permanent tables in a labyrinth of gaming rooms.
The club itself has thrived for more than 50 years. There are surprises at every turn from the huge collection of every possible terrain landscape, to a library of all aspects of warfare. Most enjoyable however has been the gaming itself. An introduction to a Chain of Command campaign in the frozen Russian winter was great, followed by an outstanding WW2 “Fire in the Sky” game.
The club extended beyond its base in Durham to support the Border Reivers Show in September with many friends at the event, highlighting the strength of the hobby in the region.
I look forward to adding more to this journal entry and to suggest to others to get connected to the club. Thanks to Neil and all for such a friendly welcome.
